THE NATION, July 17th, 2019 — During the Council meeting on July 8th, 2019, The Nation Municipal Council approved the construction of a frameless steel sports complex and community centre in Limoges. The first phase of the complex will include a 75-people capacity community centre, a 2/3 FIFA size soccer field, a walking/running track, a kitchenette and washrooms.

The Nation Municipality and the French Catholic School Board District in Eastern Ontario are currently working on establishing the details of their partnership for this project.

On June 10th, 2019, the architectural firm that was hired to work on the project, Cole + Associates Architects INC an IDEA company, gave a presentation to The Nation Municipal Council regarding the findings of their feasibility study, which was the first phase of their work plan. The next step will be the conceptual design.

The Nation Municipality will work closely with Cole + Associates Architects INC an IDEA company on the conceptual design of the complex. Once the conceptual design is complete, a public consultation will be held to receive comments from the residents.

On June 10th, 2019, The Nation Municipal Council also accepted a proposal from the firm People First Resource Development to launch a fundraising campaign for the sports complex in Limoges. The fundraising campaign should be launched sometime this fall.

If everything goes as planned, the construction of the sports complex and community centre in Limoges should be finalized in December 2020.

“Council and staff are very excited about this project. We strongly believe that having a sports complex and community centre in our community will have a positive impact on the overall health and well-being of our residents. By launching a fundraising campaign, we are hoping to engage businesses, associations and community groups to take part in this wonderful project.”—François St-Amour, Mayor of The Nation Municipality
