For Immediate Release

Following a recent tragic incident that took place in St-Albert, The Nation Municipality is aware of misinformation circulating on social media.

First and foremost, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this recent loss. We understand the profound impact this event has had on our community and remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.

There have been claims suggesting that recent staffing changes at the St-Albert Fire Station have impacted our emergency response capabilities. We want to reassure the public that these necessary changes have not compromised our operations. The station continues to have a team of firefighters on call, and as with all other stations, neighboring stations are ready to assist if additional support is needed.

It is also important to clarify that our standards and expectations for firefighter training are not new. We have always required our firefighters to participate in ongoing training to ensure they are prepared for the challenges they may face, maintaining the high standards of public safety our community deserves. While these municipal training requirements have been in place for some time, recent changes by the province have introduced additional mandatory training standards for firefighters across Ontario. We are fully committed to supporting our firefighters through these new requirements by covering all associated costs and compensating them for their time.

We are proud of our dedicated team of firefighters who put in tremendous effort to protect our community. These individuals are paid for their time spent in training and when responding to calls, reflecting the value we place on their commitment and professionalism. Their collaboration with other first responders—such as paramedics and police—ensures a coordinated and effective emergency response in The Nation. Together, they provide essential services during emergencies, and their dedication is invaluable to our residents.

We want to assure the public that we are diligently following our established Fire Master Plan to effectively manage the department and address any challenges.

We are actively addressing staffing shortages at most of our stations, a challenge faced by many rural fire departments. Recruitment is ongoing, and we’re encouraged by the interest from community members eager to serve. We invite anyone interested in joining our firefighters to apply and help us continue providing high-quality services.

We appreciate the community’s support. For more information on becoming a firefighter, please contact FireDept@NationMun.ca.
