OFFICE OF THE MAYOR

January 13th, 2025

Recent social media discussions have highlighted current challenges, and I recognize the frustration many residents feel. It’s important to remember that local government decisions extend beyond the here-and-now—they shape our community for years to come. Past decisions led us to where we are today, and as your Mayor, I’m committed to leading with a long-term perspective.

Local government is unique; we aren’t designed to turn a profit but to provide the essential services that keep our community safe, healthy, and thriving. However, we can’t be everything to everyone. Chasing every demand can undermine the core services our residents rely on. During the budget public requests, we heard from some residents seeking additional spending in the hundreds of thousands, but we can’t meet every request.

Short-term fixes often lead to long-term problems. That’s why our team remains focused on safeguarding infrastructure, enhancing core services, and cultivating an environment for responsible innovation. We want to address the most pressing issues now, while also ensuring we have a solid plan for the future.

Negativity can overshadow productive debate, but it won’t deter us from making decisions that genuinely serve our community’s long-term well-being. By setting clear priorities and investing our resources wisely, we will continue to deliver on what matters most. Working together, we can pave the way toward a resilient future that benefits all residents.
