We are looking for dedicated volunteers to join The Nation Municipality’s Heritage & Culture Committee. This is your chance to make a meaningful impact on preserving and promoting our community’s rich history. 

Requirements: 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older 
  • Must be a resident of The Nation Municipality 
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset 
  • Cannot be employed by the Municipality 

Term: This volunteer position is concurrent with the term of the Council, ending October 2026. 

Remuneration: This is a voluntary position; no remuneration is provided. 

Meetings: The committee meets at least 3 times a year. Additional meetings may be added at the Chair’s discretion. 

About the Committee: The Heritage & Culture Committee serves as an advisory body to the Council, with a mission to represent the community in preserving and promoting local heritage and culture. The committee’s mandate includes: 

Recommending frameworks to identify and recognize significant sites, buildings, and landmarks. 

Proposing strategies to enhance the promotion of The Nation’s heritage and culture. 

Encouraging community members to become storytellers and actively participate in heritage days and cultural events.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager Parks & Facilities, the incumbent works as part of a team to ensure the safe and smooth operation of the St-Isidore Recreation Centre / or The Nation Sports Complex in Limoges. This includes ice maintenance, janitorial duties, and public relations. The incumbent will also be responsible for repairs and maintenance in parks and community centers for the municipality.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform janitorial work and services and maintain the cleanliness of the interior and exterior areas at all times for the St-Isidore Recreation Center / or The Nation Sports Complex in Limoges, such as sweeping, mopping floors, washing windows, cleaning bathrooms, changing and removing garbage bags, and stripping, waxing and polishing floors;
  • Attend and manage events with or without alcohol services in recreational facilities to ensure that alcohol laws are respected.
  • Perform janitorial maintenance for community halls on an occasional basis;
  • Monitor the operation of the compressor systems and keep records;
  • Operate the Zamboni, edger, change propane tanks, replace used tears and perform preventive maintenance on the Zamboni;
  • Be able to complete tasks in stressful situations within a given timeframe;
  • Performs ice making and removal and monitors ice quality;
  • Performs regular ice maintenance, measuring ice thickness, replacing glass and maintaining rink boards;
  • Maintain the turf regularly at the sports complex;
  • Supervise the staff of the sports bar, bowling alley and the operator’s assistants;
  • Supervise the traffic inside the Arena and recreational facilities;
  • Performs various minor basic jobs including: plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry in the recreation facilities;
  • Prepare and assist the premises for various activities and events (tables and chairs) including parks, community halls, the St-Isidore Recreation Center and/or Limoges Community Centre and bar service;
  • Clearing shovel and /or tractor snow in front of emergency exits and around recreational facilities;
  • Answer questions from the public and receiving deliveries;
  • Ensure that the public respects the rules and rules of order in municipal parks and recreational facilities;
  • Be a responsible person during fire evacuations or emergency situations;
  • Ensure that doors and alarm systems are locked or unlocked according to supervisor’s instructions;
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair: ball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, water play structures, etc.; paint, repair picnic tables, fences, benches and outdoor rinks;
  • Paint lines in parking lots, tennis courts and skating rinks;
  • Prune, cut trees and maintain shrubs and flower beds;
  • Grease machines in the bowling alley, adjust ropes and clean lanes as needed;
  • Perform occasional bar service;
  • Prepare incident reports as required;
  • Perform any other related duties in the Recreation department

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma

Experience: 2 years in the field of recreation or a related field

Certification/Accreditation/Professionnal Order : · N/A

Specific knowledge:

  • Bilingual (oral and written);
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, Smart Serve;
  • WHMIS and health and safety regulations;
  • Basic knowledge of refrigeration, arena systems, electrical and plumbing;
  • ORFA ice resurfacer course (an asset)

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to respond to customer needs and solve problems;
  • Communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a team or independently;
  • Competence in health & safety and alcohol laws;
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks;
  • Sense of work well done;
  • Resourceful and versatile;
  • Professional demeanor and attention to detail

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical effort required:

  • The position requires mobility, able to stand for long periods of time;
  • Manual dexterity and coordination are required to operate equipment;
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds;
  • High physical effort required to handle equipment, set up reservations and perform daily tasks;

Equipment, specific machinery to be used:

  • Zamboni;
  • Snow blower;
  • Floor washing machine;
  • Edger;
  • Other basic construction tools

Work rhythm:

  • Work evenings and weekends;
  • Extreme weather conditions, exposed to cold and warm temperatures for short and medium periods

Hour of work: 40 hrs. per week

Position Status: Permanent (with benefits)

Salary: $25.64 per hour
